A first time meme

When Was Your First Time?

A meme, because Knitting the Blues did it, so why not me, too.

1. Who was your first prom date? My school only did a senior prom, so I went with my boyfriend Bob. Alex. That guy. It was a good time, as I recall- I got to say hi to my friend David who looked darn good in a tux (he looked more handsome at his wedding, though, since his happiness shone through). I remember sitting with Alex's friends, more than mine, which was fine, but meant that it wasn't exactly my crowd.
2. Do you still talk to your first love? I haven't spoken to him lately- I know he got married last summer, to a girl who was in my sister's class in school. Good for him!
3. What was your first alcoholic drink? Wine, for Shabbat. My first drink-drink though was a kahlua and cream at a family party when I was... a fairly early teen. My aunt thought I should learn how to pace a drink, and I paced it so well that the milk was warm by the time I finished it!
4. What was your first job? I worked at Northern Reflections at a mall- they sold tees and shorts and things. Think teacher-type clothes. My mom and I wore their stuff almost exclusively.
5. What was your first car? I drove my Dad's car in high school, but my first car is my Toyota Camry! I call her Bizness, and she's going strong 5 years in.
6. Who was the first person to text you today? I don't text much. Last text was from my sister, which is pretty normal. She asked me a question and I didn't know the answer- also normal.
7. Who is the first person you thought of this morning? Probably Jamie.
8. Who was your first grade teacher? The name escapes me... but I liked her.
9. Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane? No idea, I was real little! The first time I went on a plane ride alone was to visit my aunt and uncle in California, when I was 8.
10. Who was your first best friend and are you still friends? Caroline LaChance was my best friend in elementary school, but she moved away. I remember she played guitar, but left-handed (her guitar was strung "backwards"). After that, my soulmate and best friend and everything to me until our horrible friendship-ending fight in 8th grade... Susanne. I hear she's a doctor now. We only spoke once, for about a minute, from our fight in 8th grade until this very moment. And that minute wasn't until senior year of high school, when I went back to NH while visiting colleges. Friendship breakups are worse than any breakup with a lover, by a million miles of hurt.
11. What was your first sport played? You're joking, right? I did fence...
12. Where was your first sleepover? Probably at Wayne and Cheryl's, friends of my Mom- they had a daughter a few months younger than me.
13. Who was the first person you talked to this morning? My cubicle mate. I don't talk until I'm at work, since I live alone and I don't talk on the metro in the morning. It's bad form.
14. Whose wedding were you first in? Sharyn's!
15. What was the first thing you did this morning? Looked at the clock and realized I'd ignored 3 alarms yet again. Pondered skipping a shower and breakfast, but decided just to be 10 minutes late so I could actually shower AND have coffee.
16. What was the first concert you went to? The first one I remember? I swear it was Chubby Checker in Concord, NH. First real live cool rock show? HFSTival in 1999.
17. What was your first tattoo or piercing? One hole per ear, I'm so boring.
18. What was the first foreign country you went to? Canada, or maybe Mexico with my parents very briefly.
19. What was your first run in with the law? My friend was driving and got pulled over by a cop for speeding. The cop thought my friend was kidnapping me for dastardly reasons, and I had a hard time explaining that he was just driving me home from stage crew, because I didn't have a license yet! No licentious conduct whatsoever. He ended up getting out of the ticket, I think...
20. When was your first detention? I got a green slip for being in the cafeteria when I was supposed to be heading out for a field trip. I was only in the cafeteria looking for my class, though. I don't recall ever earning detention, though I voluntarily skipped recess to stay out of the cold in NH winters.
21. What was the first state you lived in? New Hampshire!
22. Who was the first person to break your heart? Susanne. Mike did it pretty good, too, though.
23. Who was your first roommate? Rosemary.
24. Where did you go in your first limo ride? Never been!

Tagged by KnitCrit!

Ooh! I don't think I've been tagged for much in the past on this blog. Funfun! Here's the rules:

"The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer."

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?

In the summer of 1998 I was finished with my junior year of high school, and looking forward to being a senior. I was working at the mall at JCPenney's, I think, in the fashion jewelry department and fragrance. Which I found entertaining, since I abhor perfume and avoid it at all costs.

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?

1. Get groceries
2. Work on my pink sweater knitting project
3. Watch some of the Netflix that have built up (a disc of Buffy, a disc of Angel, AND a disc of BSG)
4. Clean the kitchen
5. Find my boyfriend's measurements so I can make him a prototype vest

That's what I certainly will do. I'd also like to go for a run and pick up fabric for pillows for the new sofa.

3) Snacks I enjoy:

Mostly I've been picking beverage snacks lately- a latte with soy milk, or cranberry juice. I haven't been eating much chocolate lately, more salty things. I've always been a massive fan of chips and salsa, and my former roommate's boyfriend got me into these amazing jalapeno chips from Target. They're nice and spicy, like Doritos with a kick.

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

I would first travel to some places I've never seen (Japan, Australia, Germany and Prague). Then I'd buy a house near the metro in DC. And then I'd open a yarn shop. That would definitely take a billion or more.

5) Places I have lived:

New Hampshire; Severna Park, MD; Baltimore, MD; Ellicott City, MD; Bloomington, IN; Pikesville, MD; Rockville, MD; Bethesda, MD; Arlington, VA.

6) Jobs I have had:

I worked at a bunch of places in the mall in high school, and as a temporary receptionist during breaks in college. Since then I've taught freshman composition, been an editorial assistant, and a technical writer. Now I'm not quite sure what my title means, but I am most certainly a writer.

I will not tag anyone for this, mostly because half the blogs I read have already done it. But Dallas should post hers, if she hasn't already...

A little Meme

Knitting blog, shmitting blog. Time for a cruise through the iPod- after all, it's on a lot of the time I'm knitting!
If your life were a soundtrack, what would the music be?

Here’s how it works:
1. open your library (iTunes, winamp, media player, iPod)
2. put it on shuffle
3. press play
4. for every section, type the song that’s playing
5. next section — press the next button
6. don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool

I'm not very cool, but let's see what pops up.

Opening Credits: Cake, "Frank Sinatra" (good opening riffs, so that's cool)

Waking Up: Final Fantasy soundtrack, "Flight to the Wasteland" (hmm... not bad)

First Day at School: Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, "Summertime" (somehow seems not as a propos)

Falling in Love: Escaflowne Movie soundtrack, "Sora" (I'll take it- I really like that song and it's very passionate)

Breaking Up: Slayers Try, "Slayers Try Theme" (apparently my iPod is on an anime kick?)

Prom: Pale Saints, "A Thousand Stars Burst Open" (not very dance-able- but I suppose it could be a slow-dance?)

Life's Okay: Tori Amos, "Happy Phantom" (And if you died today, I'd be a happy phantom... and run naked through the street... I would wake up in strawberry fields every day... interesting.)

Mental Breakdown: Raymond Wong, Shaolin Soccer soundtrack, "Opening Theme" (a pretty appropriate choice, techno makes mental breakdowns)

Driving: Regina Spektor, "Somedays" (lyrical singable- perfect for my driving moods)

Flashback: Peter Frampton, "Lines on my Face"

Getting Back Together: Steel Pier soundtrack, "The Shag" (too funny- though the song isn't quite as "get it on" as it sounds)

Wedding: Everclear, "Normal Like You" (definitely not a fit!)

Birth of Child: Tori Amos, "Spring Haze" (don't know on this one- seems a bit quiet for the birth, but maybe for the aftermath?)

Final Battle: Little Shop of Horrors soundtrack, "They Say the Meek Shall Inherit" (great!)

Death Scene: Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within soundtrack, "The Eighth Spirit" (ethereal instrumental with nice booming moments and a bit eerie-sounding- pretty good fit)

End Credits: Placido Domingo, "Aquellos ojos verdes" (suitable I suppose, I'm surprised there wasn't more operatic music earlier in the set)

No super surprises here, though it's mostly movie and musical soundtracks- whereas here is my "25 most played list" for perspective!
The Apples in Stereo, Energy
Jonathan Coulton, Ikea
Amy Winehouse, Rehab
These United States, The Business
The Hussy's, Napoleon Dynamite

Chloe Day, Man in my Bedroom Corner

David & the Citizens, Graycoated Morning

The Cure, Love Song
Fools & Horses, Spinning Me Around
Guster, Jesus on the Radio
Inara George, Fools in Love

Rilo Kiley, I Never
Rilo Kiley, Accidntel Death
Rilo Kiley, A Man/ Me/Then Jim
